The secret "formula" to combining exercises to your bodybuilding program is to realizing how your system will react best when training two bodyparts on the same day -- for example: Chest and Biceps
Note that I never train Chest with any other muscle-group, than Biceps.
See, when you train Chest on a given day, both with the chest muscles, you also indirectly train the triceps, deltoid and other smaller synergistic muscles. These muscle groups contribute to the production of the chest workout and are already fatigued. Any more additional overload to these muscle areas will be counterproductive and will induce negative and catabolic effects. That's when overtraining takes place... a bodybuilder's worst nightmare.
At this point our biceps are full of energy and can react best after trained with Chest. I have named this strategy, the "identical exercises", or "identical muscle groups". Those are the muscle-groups which interrelate together to produce a "common goal", i.e. to lift the same overload with synergy.
